**Only after the team checked the records did it realise that the apparent increase reflected a change in reporting.** Only+状语放句首，主句部分倒装did it realise；that从句仍为陈述语序。还原The team realised…only after…。

**Not until the costs were included did the proposal appear less attractive.** 还原The proposal did not appear less attractive until the costs were included。这里did后appear原形；不要写did appeared。

**What matters is not whether the tool is new, but whether it helps users complete a task.** What引导主语从句，相当于the thing that matters；两个whether从句是并列的表语内容。not…but…

**The policy, if applied without exceptions, could disadvantage people whose schedules are irregular.** if applied=if it is applied；省略前提是主语可从policy恢复。

**The second survey included fewer first-year students than the first did.** did代included，比较的是两次survey包括的一年级学生人数，不是总学生人数。**as much a question of access as of motivation**表示同样涉及可达性与动机，并非二选一。

处理密集名词短语也要恢复关系：the effect of reduced staffing on evening access =减少人手对晚间可使用情况的影响。

**Had the researchers relied only on completed forms, they would have overlooked people who could not use the online system.**

If the researchers had relied…。主句would have overlooked表示本会漏掉。

### 1

还原Only when the sample was enlarged did the pattern become clear为正常语序，并翻译only的限制。

### 2

What remains unclear is whether the improvement will last after the trial ends.

### 3

The guide, if updated regularly, could remain useful for several years.

### 4

Not all benefits that are easy to measure are the most important ones.

### 5

写出Had the team consulted users, it would have noticed the barrier earlier的if版本，并说明是否断言团队当时咨询过用户。

### 6

The revision raises as many questions as it answers.

### 1

The pattern became clear **only when the sample was enlarged**.

### 3

if **it is** updated regularly。it=the guide，含被动。

not all不同于none；定语从句限制benefits的范围。

### 5

If the team **had consulted** users, it **would have noticed** the barrier earlier.

as many…as…

### 7

Syntactic analysis helps us recover the omitted verb and distinguish the claim from its restriction of scope. help后动词并列，distinguish A from B。

### 8

The counterfactual condition does not describe an event that actually happened; subsequent analysis must preserve this distinction.
